604 d in ob....work on progress

Hi all,
I added to the basket additional masses of lead in order to dampen the resonances . We can see also Harmonix speaker enacom , Bybee purifier and Audio Magic speaker clarifier.
The crossover is the Iconic DN604E-16UU supercrossover. Moreover we can see on the base 5 additional masses to form of Cuba (7 kg each) additional masses of lead in order to dampen the resonances and the Quantum Symphony pro.

They look like sinkers to me would you happen to do some fishing I would think they, the lead sinkers would resonate as well, especially the round ones as they can't be attached with enough surface area to deadon the resonances IMO.Does it help, can you notice any differance? Regards

they are attacked with a insulating material similar to the blue tak. I perceived the greater difference in medium bass , medium frequency and in the reproduction of the string instruments.
The reproduction is more natural and touching the loudspeaker basket during his operation I perceived less vibrations.

This is the first photo I've seen of an Iconic crossover--there are no photos of their crossovers on their website. How do their DN604E-16UU crossovers sound/function? Did they come mounted on plywood? Are there any pots on them or are they pre-set by Iconic at a fixed level? How long ago did you purchase them? Nothing has been updated on their website in ages--I'm wondering if they're doing much/any business these days....

Hmmm, that's interesting. Most all mechanical resonances, including the ones for the metal speaker basket and the speaker baffle board (with the speaker attached), are proportional to sqrt(k/m). In this equation, k is the spring constant (stiffness) and m is the mass. You have added a lot of mass, but didn't make anything stiffer so the resonance frequency of the speaker basket and the baffle board dropped. I'm sure they didn't drop down below 20 Hz. Probably in the 100's to 1000's of Hz. And I doubt that's enough blue tack to damp down the overall Q. I wonder if you are hearing a boost in amplitude in the described freq. range?

I purchased the first of my pair DN604E-16UU supercrossover two year ago for my Altec 604 E in 620 cabinet. The crossover you see in OB is the second purchased in october 2009. Both the pair are mounted on plywood and appear assembled in specular way although two years are passed. For me this is a great example of Iconic's seriousness. About the frequency range frm 100's to 1000's I can hear a boost in amplitude but simply a a greater cleaning during the music reproduction and a more ready and fast answer to the musical transients.

the sound is much more natural and pleasant . Eliminated the peak in the frequencies between 1200 and 2500 hz that was present with the 1600 network. Better restitution of the range between 2500 and 5000 hz. Greater energy over the 5000 hz.
